Coverage of Formula 1 is a minefield when it comes to the correct use of ‘amount’ and ‘number’ because there are so many facts and figures. There is usually at least one slip up and yesterday’s British Grand Prix was no exception when the commentator referred to the “amount of laps …”.

* Yes, that is 'lapse', not 'laps'!
